How a Solar Photovoltaic installation can work for your home (in brief) –

  • The systems we install capture the sun’s (solar) energy using photovoltaic cells.
  • The cells convert the sunlight into electricity. (PV cells don’t need direct sunlight to work – they still generate electricity on a cloudy day.)
  • This electricity is then used to run your household appliances and lighting.
  • The PV systems are designed to ensure you benefit from Feed-in Tariffs (see below).

The Benefits –  you can benefit from a Solar-rise PV system in at least 3 ways:

  • Earning you money through the Government’s Feed-in Tariff scheme, guaranteed for 20 years: Via your energy supplier you receive payment for each unit (or kWh) of electricity you generate AND you get paid for the units of energy you don’t use that are exported back to the grid. The current tariff rate for units of energy generated is currently set at 4.32p / kWh for up to 4kW systems (higher rate) and 4.53p/kWh for up to 4-10kW systems . You also earn 4.9p for every unit you don’t use that goes back to the grid (though this is not ‘measured’ at present, but estimated at 50% of system capacity).
  • Reduce your carbon footprint: solar electricity is green, renewable energy and does not release any harmful carbon dioxide (CO2) or other pollutants. A typical home PV system could save around 1 tonne of CO2 per year – around 25 tonnes over its lifetime – AND contribute to the advancement of clean technology.
  • Cut your electricity bills: sunlight is free, so your electricity costs will be greatly reduced. A typical home PV system can produce at least 40%  of the electricity a household uses in a year.
